Establishing safety in the theater.

·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ’s Art and Theater Safety Program is designed to ensure that a safe, healthy environment is maintained. This includes the control and minimization of all known and potential hazards associated with creative, artistic, and performance development. The program is designed to provide an overview of some of the most common risks and serves as a source of safety protocols and guidelines for safely working in art studios and theater.

Studio Safety Manual

Many of the materials, methods and techniques used in creating works of art involve hazardous materials and processes, as well as tools and equipment that require the use of proper and safe procedures. Being aware of potential hazards and using methods to work safely reduces the likelihood that an accident will occur. The information presented in the Art Safety Manual is designed to provide an overview of some of the most common risks and serves as a source of safety protocols and guidelines for safely working in art studios.

Theater Safety Manual

Many processes, techniques, materials, and practices used in the theater and performing arts contain potential risks to individuals. These risks can be minimized and controlled through proper training, equipment, and use of appropriate precautions, restrictions, and established safe-work practices. The information presented in the Theater Safety Manual is designed to provide an overview of some of the most common risks and serves as a source of safety protocols and guidelines for safely working in the theater.

Studio and Theater Safety Training Requirements

All new faculty, staff and students must attend the Studio and Theater safety training at their initial time of hire, and then pass a web-based safety test. The test consists of questions related to specific safety rules at the University. Once the test is passed, one can begin working in the studio or theater. Notification of dates of safety presentations and test availability will be through campus email. Annual re-testing will take place at the beginning of each semester using the web-based safety test.
